About the Club

Whether you're a street tough hoping to get picked up by Don Bowden, a prizefighter working for a Don or Godfather - a membership to Purgatory Gym means opportunity.  Made men or better working for Don Bowden never pay membership fees.

MEMBERSHIP HAS IT'S PRIVILEGES

Because this is a business district location, anyone can post there... but in order to win prize money fighting with us, you need skin in the game.  Monthly memberships help us pay prizes to
those who take part in monthly NPC fights every month!

Godfathers and Dons love to be known as having the BEST of things... whether the prettiest girl, fastest car or racehorse... or prizefighter.  But, since it's no good having a prizefighter if no one sees them fight, it's in your Don or Godfather's interest to sponsor your membership to the gym so you can take part in our player vs. player fights.

Winners of these bouts take home 75% of a considerably larger pot & 25% goes to their sponsor!  So the more you fight and win, the happier your boss will be!

Monthly Membership Fee:  $100,000

NPC Fights

Each month, paying members are welcome to engage in prize fights with NPC fighters working for the gym and Don Bowden.  To do this, simply write to Don Bowden, tell him you're going to write a post in the Purgatory Gym thread in which you're gonna fight one of our prizefighters (see the right-hand side of this page (or below if you're on mobile) for NPC fighter profiles!)

A single dice roll for $10,000 will determine if you win or lose.  If you win, you keep your cash + the money Don Bowden put up.  Congrats - go write your RP up with you as the winner!  If you lose, the other fighter (Don Bowden) gets the pot & now you must go write your humiliating defeat!

Because of the time, it takes to train for fights and promote them, you can do one fight per week.

MAIN EVENTS

Main events are where two players who are paying members decide to fight it out!  Main events will be advertised to the entire Upper Structure so that people can come and join the RP and bet on who will win!  Oddsmakers will be appointed for each fight and odds set on each fighter (first arbitrarily and in time based on your win/loss ratio.)

HOW MAIN EVENTS WORK

  • Two fighters or their sponsors come to Don Bowden and announce their intention to fight.

  • An unbiased referee/fight commentator must be appointed.  It can be any player that the other two feel will not lie or play favorites.

  • Don Bowden will spend several days promoting the fight in an attempt to encourage betting on the two fighters so that the Purgatory Crew clears a profit on the fight.  The only money Don Bowden makes on fights is from betting.  All other cash goes to the fighters and their sponsors.

  • Each fight lasts five (5) rounds.

  • Before the fight starts, both players are assigned 100 points of stamina.

  • They post in the thread, introducing themselves into the ring, then submit to the fight commentator their first attack and defense scores (taken out of their 100 Stamina, how many points do they want to use to attack and defend in the first round?)

  • When the ref gets the scores, he DOES NOT reveal them to ANYONE.  After all, if the players knew what each person spent it would become too easy to win the fight as you get closer to the end.

  • The fight commentator will, after getting both fighters Attack and Defense scores post to the thread in which he'll talk to the audience about what he saw happen in the ring that round.  Through descriptive text, he will let everyone know how the attacks and defensive actions of the players fared.

  • The fighters will have a chance to write a bit about their actions in the round if they wish.

  • The players watching the fight are welcome to write their reactions to the fight between the rounds.

  • Every round proceeds this way until the last.

  • The player who got the most hits in on the other person wins the fight.

  • If a player miscalcuated and hits zero points before the end of the fight - the opponent is the winner by knock out.

  • If players do not respond within 48 hours of a round beginning, they will forfit the fight (ie: their sponsor threw in the towel because the fighter looked too weak to go on.)

  • If BOTH players fail to post within 48 hours of a round beginning the fight is called a draw and ends there to keep everyone out of RP limbo.

  • When the fight ends the fight commentator will share the bids with both fighters and their sponsors in an out of character mobmail.
